Mulch, soil and stone by the truckload
The yard on East Ozark Avenue has loaded landscapers and homeowners since 1982. Pull in and get loaded, or tell us where the pile goes.

One yard, one address since 1982
AJ Lawing started this in April 1982 as a landscaping company. The supply yard came later, because a crew that goes through mulch and stone every week ends up with a yard full of it, and the neighbors start asking.
Forty four years on, both halves are still running out of 1401 East Ozark Avenue. You can buy a scoop of hardwood over the counter, or you can have the same crew design the bed, cut the grade and put the material in. Most weeks we do both.

Watch a bare yard turn into a finished one
Same house, same camera. Beds cut in, mulch down, shrubs set, sod rolled across the front. Every bit of that material comes off a pile on Ozark Avenue, and the crew that installs it works out of the same yard.

Contractors load out from 8 in the morning. Tell us the list and it will be ready.
Why people keep coming back
A yard, not a garden center
Back a truck or a trailer under the loader and you are out with a scoop in a few minutes.
Sold by the scoop and the ton
Half a yard for one bed or twenty tons for a driveway. Both are normal here.
Someone picks up the phone
One reviewer put it better than we can: when you call them, you don't get a recording.
We install this material too
The crew that builds beds, patios and drainage works out of the same yard, so the advice comes from doing it.
Delivery across the county
Ten towns from Kings Mountain to Mount Holly, with the pile put where the work is.
The same family since 1982
Forty four years at one address, and the second generation is driving now.
How an order goes
Length and width in feet, and how deep you want it. Every quote starts with those three numbers.
A cubic yard covers about 108 square feet three inches deep. We will tell you the yards or the tons.
Come to Ozark Avenue with a truck or a trailer, or give us an address and a spot for the pile.
On the drive, at the bed, or as close as the truck can get without tearing up the yard.
If you would rather not move three yards of mulch by wheelbarrow, the crew does that part.

Would rather not move three yards by wheelbarrow?
The crew that supplies the material installs it too. Ask for a price on the work.
Where we deliver
Gaston County and the Kings Mountain side of Cleveland County.
What Gaston County says
Every quote below is a real review, word for word, from our Google profile.
I called this morning looking for prices on some mulch and expected to have to wait a few days for delivery. I spoke with Melissa and she helped me figure out how much I needed and quoted a very reasonable price and told me I could get it delivered in half an hour! Mac was soon in my driveway with a truckload of mulch. He drove that truck right up to my flower bed and dumped it right where I needed it.
I'm born and raised here, so I've known about AJ's for probably the last 30 years or more, but have never worked with them until now. They are awesome to work with. When you call them, you don't get a recording. They answer the phones and provide great insight and advice for the project.
This long established business continues to provide quality products for a reasonable price. The second generation is also involved and he delivers quickly, efficiently and never fails to treat customers respectfully.
Always great, the lady on the phone is always pleasant and soooo friendly, she is patient answering questions and helpful, the delivery guy is always friendly, he even dump my gravel in diff spots to make it easier to spread.
AJ will forever be my place and will always be the first place i recommend. I have begged my husband for years to fill an area in my garden with river rock. He was able to do that yesterday with the help of AJ's!
Great family owned and operated business. Honest, insightful and helpful in every aspect.

Measure the bed, multiply length by width, then divide by 100 for a rough yard count at three inches deep. A bed 10 by 20 feet is about two yards.
Yes, across Gaston County and out to Kings Mountain. Call the yard with the address and what you need.
That is how most of it leaves. Back under the loader and we will fill it. Just be honest with yourself about what the springs and the trailer rating will take.

Yes. Design and installation, hardscapes, drainage, irrigation and lawn maintenance, all with our own crew. The company started as a landscaping business in 1982 and the yard grew out of it.
